Meals on Weekends
Volunteers are needed to provide lunch and supper on the weekends, and occasionally during the week. Individuals drop off prepared meals from home, or restaurants. Volunteers can pick one meal a month or be on a rotating schedule with another volunteer.  To email our Meals on the weekend coordinator click here
Tutoring
Volunteers are needed to assist residents with educational needs. Volunteers will receive training for working with the youth, and must complete an application, interview and criminal background check. Tutoring volunteers usually can work with residents on a weekly basis assisting with current educational assignments.
Project Safe Place
Volunteers are need for various support requirements with this program. Project Safe Place is a national program that gives teenagers in trouble a place to go for help. Stores and other public locations in the community display the Safe Place sign on their premises. When a teenager comes to a Safe Place location, their employee calls the Shelter. The Shelter sends a trained volunteer to the site to assist the youth. The volunteer can transport the youth to the Shelter or call the parents. Volunteers can be anyone who wants to help youth in the community. Volunteers attend training on Safe Place and crisis intervention procedures. Although this is an "on call" opportunity, volunteers are not expected to stay at home or wait by the phone. If a volunteer is not available to respond when called, another will be called. Volunteers must have a valid drivers license, auto insurance, pass a criminal background check and attend training provided by the Shelter.
In addition to being able to respond to youth at Safe Place sites,  volunteers can also help out with the following:

  • Site Preservation: Check Safe Place Sites for training needs and proper placement of Safe Place signs.
  • Safe Place Phone Help: Assist in answering Shelter phones in the evenings and on weekends. Phone volunteers will also be responsible for initially responding to incoming Safe Place calls and calls from youth or parents.
