Holiday Information

WHAT IS THE ADOPT-A-CHILD PROGRAM:

            The Adopt-A-Child program is a program designed for supporters of the Gwinnett Children's Shelter to provide Christmas gifts to the children placed at the Shelter and participating in the After-care program.   A sponsor can request the age and gender of the child they would like to sponsor and the Shelter will attempt to match that request for age and gender as close as possible.  Sponsors will receive their child's Christmas list* and purchase what they feel is adequate for that child.  No used items will be accepted as Christmas gifts.  The Shelter does not suggest an amount to spend, however, we do ask that you purchase at least 5 gifts per child.  The sponsors will deliver the gifts to the shelter UNWRAPPED by the designated date with their child's name on the gifts.  Sponsors do not get to meet the children they sponsor.

 

*Because we are an emergency Shelter, we receive many children during the first two weeks of December and their Christmas lists will not be available until that time.  In the past, we have had children arrive at the Shelter 3 days before Christmas. We will be in need of “on-call” sponsors to purchase gifts for these children who arrive just before Christmas.

 

HOW TO ADOPT-A-CHILD:

Call the Shelter and speak to Majonica Askew at 678-546-8770 ext. 250: 

1.      You can either adopt one or two children, providing their gifts from their specific wish list.

2.      You can sponsor all the kids, providing one small gift per child (journals, stuffed animals, etc.-see angel tree idea list). These gifts are given in addition to their gifts from their sponsor.  Click here for a list of Angel Tree/Shelter sponsorship ideas.

3.      You can sponsor the Shelter, by providing gifts from the special needs list, wish list or gift certificates for restaurants, recreational activities, etc.   

  WHAT TO GET THE CHILDREN:

1.      If you sponsor one or two children, a copy of their Christmas list will be mailed or faxed to you.

2.      If you sponsor all the children, discuss with the Shelter what you would like to donate.

3.      If you sponsor the Shelter, discuss with the Shelter some ideas from the special needs list.

  ALL GIFTS MUST BE IN BY FRIDAY DECEMBER 12th

Please coordinate with the Shelter the date and time you wish to deliver the gifts.

  OTHER OPTIONS FOR THE HOLIDAYS:

·        Participate in the 2009 Meal Program – supplying meals to the shelter on weekends.

·        Assist with Holiday Decorating needs (such as Trees) or wrapping presents
