The Gwinnett Children's Shelter, recently named the D. Scott Hudgens Humanitarian of the Year by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, announces the opening on February 21st, 2007 of its Adolescent Boy's Independent Living Facility. This group home is designed to serve eight teenage boys who are in the custody of the state and for whom reunification with parents or family members is not an option. Services to be provided included 24 hour supervision, individual, group and family, counseling, instruction in living skills needed to function as a successful adult, educational support, job training, and recreational activities. In order to provide a continuum of quality services, the Gwinnett Children's Shelter is a member of several organizations aimed at improving the lives of youth and families.
